There Really Is No Other Purpose
a poem

Under the city’s rain

an Argentinean ant carries

a bent drone

in its mandibles.

One of the queen’s offspring

is ready for recycling.

As sunlit clouds drench

the earth, water seeps

into the colony. White dots

of larva move on a mass of legs.

The Ant realm

devours itself,

swells itself—

and why not.
